Devils Have Tough Week on the Court

               On Tuesday, January 19th, the Devils traveled up Highway 341 North to Perry to face the Panthers for a Junior Varsity Red Devils game and two Varsity games.  This evening had a little extra excitement as two bats decided to fly around the gym and bother the crowd.  The little flying beasts circled the ceiling during the Varsity Lady Devils game.  But the Varsity Red Devils game was delayed in starting and again halfway through the first quarter as the bats had to be captured and removed from the gym due to their swooping down amongst the players and to the floor. 

      Then on Friday, January 22nd, the Devils hosted the Turner County Rebels for three games – a JV Red Devils game and two Varsity games. 

Hawkinsville v. Perry 

      The JV Red Devils faced the JV Panthers in the first game of the day.  The final score was Hawkinsville 29, Perry 45. 

      The Lady Devils faced the Lady Panthers in the second game of the day.  At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Devils were down 8 to 18.  The second quarter ended with Hawkinsville down 19 to 41.  The Lady Devils were trailing 29 to 59 at the end of the third quarter.  The final score was Hawkinsville 48, Perry 63. 

      The Lady Devils combined to pull down 35 rebounds, 19 of those being defensive rebounds.  Leading rebounders were Ykeshia Baker with 9, Ashley Gilbert with 8, and Kamara Bembry with 7.  The Lady Devils gave 8 assists, led by Kamara Bembry with 3 assists.  Hawkinsville had 6 steals.  The team was led by Taquonda Brown and Kamara Bembry with 2 steals each.  The Lady Devils blocked 6 shots, led by Kamara Bembry with 3.  The team had 13 defensive deflections.  Hawkinsville scored 2 points and allowed 12 points on turnovers.  The Lady Devils had one player in double figures. 

      The Red Devils faced the Panthers in the third game of the day.  The Red Devils were down 4 to 19 at the end of the first quarter.  The second quarter ended with Hawkinsville behind 16 to 32.  At the end of the third quarter the Red Devils were trailing 31 to 53.  The final score was Hawkinsville 42, Perry 66. 

      The Red Devils combined to pull down 31 rebounds, 20 of those being defensive rebounds.  Leading rebounders were Alex Andrews with 11, Jarvis Tinsley with 5, Aaron Black and Oscar Jenkins with 4 each, and Brian Holmes with 3.  The Red Devils gave 5 assists, led by Cameron Moses and Darrien Brown, Jr. with 2 assists each.  Hawkinsville had 7 steals.  The team was led by Cameron Moses and Darrien Brown, Jr. with 2 steals apiece.  The Red Devils blocked 2 shots.  The team had 19 defensive deflections.  Hawkinsville scored no points while allowing 23 points on turnovers.  The Red Devils had two players in double figures. 

Hawkinsville v. Turner County 

      The first game of the evening was contested between the Junior Varsity Red Devils and the JV Rebels.  The final score was Hawkinsville 29, Turner County 63. 

      The second game of the evening was contested between the Lady Devils and the Lady Rebels.  This game stayed fairly close until the fourth quarter.  At the end of the first quarter the Lady Devils were behind 10 to 13.  The second quarter ended with Hawkinsville down 21 to 23.  The Lady Devils were trailing 28 to 35 at the end of third quarter.  The final score was Hawkinsville 34, Turner County 57. 

      The Lady Devils combined to pull down 29 rebounds, 17 of those being defensive rebounds.  Leading rebounders were Ykeshia Baker with 17 and Sharinea Coley with 4.  The Lady Devils gave 4 assists, led by Sharinea Coley with 2 assists.  Hawkinsville had 10 steals.  The team was led by Ykeshia Baker with 4, and Taquonda Brown and Ashley Gilbert with 2 apiece.  The Lady Devils blocked 6 shots, led by Ykeshia Baker with 3.  The team had 10 defensive deflections.  Hawkinsville scored 2 points and allowed 6 points on turnovers.  The Lady Devils had two players in double figures. 

      The third game of the evening was contested between the Red Devils and the Rebels.  The first quarter ended with the Red Devils behind 10 to 17.  At the end of the second quarter Hawkinsville was down 26 to 30.  The Red Devils were trailing 36 to 49 at the end of the third quarter.  The final score was Hawkinsville 41, Turner County 68. 

      The Red Devils combined to pull down 24 rebounds, 18 of those being defensive rebounds.  Leading rebounders were Cameron Moses and Darrien Brown, Jr. with 5 rebounds each, and Alex Andrews, Brandon Adams, and Aaron Black with 4 rebounds each.  The Red Devils gave 10 assists, led by Cameron Moses with 4 assists.  Hawkinsville had 9 steals.  The team was led by Cameron Moses and Darrien Brown, Jr. with 3 steals apiece.  The team had 9 defensive deflections.  Hawkinsville scored 2 points and allowed 14 point on turnovers.  The Red Devils had one player in double figures. 

HHS Game Schedule 

      On Friday, January 29th, the Devils will host the Wilcox County Patriots for three games.  The JV Red Devils are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. with the Varsity games scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.  Saturday, January 30th, will see the Devils traveling to Lumpkin to face the Stewart County Knights for a pair of Varsity games beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Then on Tuesday, February 2nd, the Devils will play host to the Schley County Wildcats for a pair of Varsity games beginning at 6:00 p.m.  On Saturday, February 6th, the Devils will host the Dooly County Bobcats for four games.  The two JV games are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. with the two Varsity games scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
